If you are looking for a blue sapphire, below 4 points will come handy when picking a good sapphire.
Heated or Unheated ?
Sapphires can be defined in to two categories. Heated and Unheated sapphires. Always check for this. Heated ones are heated using man made furnaces to enhance their color while unheated ones are exactly as they are when they mined from the earth.
Weight
Weight of gemstones are measured in CARATS. I recommend to use anything that's above the 0.5 carat mark. Anything below that is just too small.
Color
Not all blue sapphires are expensive and there are many shades of blue. The most priced ones are being royal blue and cornflower blue. Other colors like just blue, pale blue colors are not expensive compared to the more expensive royal blue and cornflower blue ones.
So if you are in a tight budget try alternative colors of blue sapphires.
Clarity
I'll make i simple for you. If you can see inclusions inside the sapphire you're going to buy and if you think that it is visible to the naked eye you might want to consider choosing another one over it.
Point being, inclusions ,feathers, bubbles should not be visible at eye level. Also there's nothing wrong with inclusions, they occur naturally inside sapphires. it all comes down to how you are going to like it.
So lesser the inclusions higher the price.
Other than that it all comes down to your personal preference. But do keep the above points on mind.
